Thorlabs' Protected Silver-Coated Concave Mirrors are designed for light collection, imaging, and focusing applications. These reflective optics focus light without introducing chromatic aberration, making them especially suitable for broadband sources.

These mirrors offer >97.5% average reflection in the spectral range from 450 nm - 2 µm and >96% average reflection
in the spectral range from 2 - 20 µm, and are significantly better than protected aluminum for applications near 780 nm. They consist of a silver-coated N-BK7 substrate that features a protective SiO2 overcoat. With ≤λ/4 surface irregularity
at 633 nm, these mirrors provide excellent image quality.

All of the mirrors on this page can be mounted by our Precision Kinematic Mirror Mounts.

Due to their high reflectance over the 450 nm - 20 µm range, these mirrors are also well suited for use with femtosecond pulsed lasers. For our full selection of optics for ultrafast applications, please see the Ultrafast Optics tab.

Please contact Tech Support for custom versions of these optics. Thorlabs also offers dielectric concave mirrors that provide higher reflectivity than metal mirrors at the expense of operating over a narrower wavelength range.

Care and Handling
Silver coated mirrors require additional care due to their susceptibility to damage from environmental conditions and improper handling. Fingerprints, contact with abrasive surfaces, and environments with high humidity or temperature will diminish the effectiveness of the protective overcoat leaving the silver coating susceptible to oxidation and degradation. When working with silver mirrors, follow standard practices for handling optics. Latex gloves or similar protective coverings are recommended to prevent oil and other residues on the user’s fingers from reaching the optical surface. Even with such precautions, care should be taken not to touch the mirrored face or edges. Silver mirrors should be used and stored in areas at room temperature with minimal humidity. The shaded regions in the graphs denote the ranges over which we guarantee the specified reflectance. Please note that the reflectance outside of these bands is typical and can vary from lot to lot, especially in out-of-band regions where the reflectance is fluctuating or sloped.

Any chance of getting a 75mm silver mirror with a 250mm focal length? Is Ultrafast Protected Silver a possible coating option? If you can do this focal length please quote.

Response from Jeremy at Thorlabs: The damage threshold for the mirror is listed on the website as 1750 W/cm at 1.064µm (Ø0.044mm beam size) and 1500 W/cm at 10.6µm (Ø0.339mm beam size). 700W with Ø2mm beam size would equate to >3500W/cm which will damage the mirror.

Concave Mirror Selection Guide

Thorlabs offers concave mirrors with both metallic and dielectric stack reflective coatings. Metallic-coated mirrors offer relatively high reflectivity (90-95%) over a wide wavelength range, while dielectric-coated mirrors provide even higher reflectivity (>99%) but over a smaller wavelength range. See the table to the right for an overview of the various coatings we offer for our concave mirrors. All coating options are available on optics with diameters ranging from Ø1/2" to Ø75 mm. Metallic mirrors are available with focal lengths from 9.5 - 500 mm, while dielectric mirrors are available with focal lengths from 12 - 500 mm.

Below are reflectivity plots for our complete line of concave mirrors. To view our selection of mirrors available with a particular coating, either click on the graphed line of interest or the corresponding coating name in the legend. Graphs are shown for an angle of incidence (AOI) of 8 degrees, which is the recommended angle at which to use a concave mirror.
