Thorlabs' Protected Gold-Coated Concave Mirrors are designed for light collection, imaging, and focusing applications. These reflective optics focus light without chromatic aberration, making them especially suitable for broadband sources.

These mirrors offer >96% average reflection in the infrared spectral range from 800 nm - 20 µm. They consist of a gold-coated N-BK7 substrate that features a protective SiO2 overcoat. With low surface irregularity at 633 nm, these mirrors provide excellent image quality.

All of the mirrors on this page can be mounted by our Precision Kinematic Mirror Mounts.

Please contact Tech Support for custom versions of these optics. Thorlabs also offers dielectric concave mirrors that provide higher reflectivity than metal mirrors at the expense of operating over a more narrow wavelength range.

The shaded regions in the graphs denote the ranges over which we guarantee the specified reflectance. Please note that the reflectance outside of these bands is typical and can vary from lot to lot, especially in out-of-band regions where the reflectance is fluctuating or sloped.

I'm conducting an experiment involving the far-infrared to near-infrared range. Could you please provide a reflectivity graph up to 200 micrometers?

Thank you for reaching out to us with this inquiry. While we have not directly taken these measurements up to 200um, literature suggests that protected gold (gold with SiO2 overcoat) is highly reflective (>90%) up to and including the stated range. I have contacted you directly to share the journal articles which I have sourced this information.

@YLohia: Thank you for the info. Do you have any experience where the damage threshold is in terms of temperature (talking about ambient air temperature, not laser-induced)? And what is the failure mechanism? Can you offer any mirrors which can withstand ~600 °C?

Hello, the information given in the previous feedback response was relating to the maximum ambient temperature, not LIDT. I have reached out to you directly to discuss the possibility of offering a custom mirror.

How thick is the SiO2 overcoat and why do you use a different one (website says dielectric) on your plano Gold mirrors. Background of my question is the maximum operating/ambient temperature for these mirrors.

Thank you for contacting Thorlabs. Unfortunately, the thickness of the SiO2 layer is proprietary information. We also use SiO2 on our plano protected gold mirrors. While we don't have a formal maximum temperature spec, since these mirrors are coated at 200-250 C, they should hold up to that temperature range.

How about publishing the surface figure error on the concave mirrors? It would be great if the info gave the figure error over the entire clear aperture in addition to over any diameter of, for example, 1 cm.

Concave Mirror Selection Guide

Thorlabs offers concave mirrors with both metallic and dielectric stack reflective coatings. Metallic-coated mirrors offer relatively high reflectance (90-95%) over a wide wavelength range, while dielectric-coated mirrors provide even higher reflectance (>99%) but over a smaller wavelength range. See the table to the right for an overview of the various coatings we offer for our concave mirrors. All coating options are available on optics with diameters ranging from Ø1/2" to Ø75 mm. Metallic mirrors are available with focal lengths from 9.5 - 1000 mm, while dielectric mirrors are available with focal lengths from 12 - 1000 mm.

Below are reflectance plots for our metallic-, dielectric-, and crystalline-coated concave mirrors. To view our selection of mirrors available with a particular coating, either click on the graphed line of interest or the corresponding coating name in the legend. Graphs for the matallic- and dielectrc-coated mirrors are shown for an angle of incidence (AOI) of 8 or 6 degrees. Graphs for the crystalline-coated mirrors are shown for an AOI of 0 degrees.
