Thorlabs offers both fixed and adjustable optic height kinematic mounts for square or rectangular optics, such as our square metallic or dielectric mirrors and diffraction gratings. The fixed mounts are designed to hold 1/2", 1", or 2" tall rectangular optics that are at least 3.0 mm (0.12") thick. Each mount is available in left- or right-handed configurations. Our adjustable optic height mounts are designed to accept rectangular optics up to 1.3" (33.0 mm) tall, such as our cylindrical lenses. Optics are held in place with rubber-padded arms that can be locked with a 0.05" hex key. These mounts are also available in either left- or right-handed configurations.
Alternatively, Thorlabs also offers a 90° flip mount for rectangular optics.

Optics are Secured with a Nylon-Tipped 5/64" (2 mm) Hex Setscrew and Flexure Clamp Mechanism
These fixed-height, two-adjuster kinematic mounts hold 1/2", 1", or 2" tall square or rectangular optics that are at least 3.0 mm (0.12") thick. We recommend these mounts for holding our square metallic or dielectric mirrors and diffraction gratings.
The optic is secured in each mount with a nylon-tipped 5/64" (2 mm) hex setscrew and a flexure clamp mechanism, as shown in the photo to the right. The setscrew presses the flexure clamp against the edge of the optic to create an area of contact, holding the optic securely in the mount.

ER1.5 Rods have been threaded onto those provided with the KM100C.
The KM100C(L) adjustable-height mounts are ideal for mounting cylindrical lenses of various sizes. They are available in right-handed (Item # KM100C) or left-handed (Item # KM100CL) configurations. Optics are securely held in place by two rubber-padded arms that can be locked with a 0.05" hex key. The length of the rubber pads is 0.79" (20.0 mm). For the KM100C, we recommend mounting optics with an edge thickness no greater than 0.500" (12.7 mm). For the KM100CL, we recommend mounting optics with an edge thickness no greater than 0.300" (7.62 mm). Mounting optics greater than these maximum values will affect the stability and performance of the mounts.
The mount accepts cylindrical optics up to 1.3" (33.0 mm) tall. The adjustable clamping arm is mounted to two preinstalled ER1.5 rods. To accommodate taller optics, additional ER rods (sold separately) can be screwed onto those included with the mount (as seen in the photo to the right). It also has two #8 (M4) counterbores for mounting to our Ø1/2" Posts.
The kinematic tip/tilt adjustments, driven by two 1/4"-80 adjusters, simplify positioning. An optional accessory, the LN2580 bronze locking nut, is available to lock the adjusters once the desired position is reached.
These 5/64" Hex Key Adjuster Thumbscrews allow for quick adjustment of many 5/64" and 2 mm hex-driven actuators (or standard actuators with the knobs removed). These temporary knobs can be left in the screw's hex socket between adjustments for convenience (see photo to the right). An 8-32 setscrew (5/64" hex) secures the replaceable hex bit, which can be reversed if the tip is stripped. Contact Tech Support to order replacement hex key bits.
We offer hex key thumbscrews in sizes from 0.050" to 3/16" and 2 mm to 5 mm.
