Up Next! Optimizing Acquisition of Pulsed Sources in Spectroscopy

Spectroscopical experiments often involve light sources that are pulsed. Measuring pulsed sources with Fourier-based spectrometers can be challenging, since the abruptly changing interferograms give rise to spurious ghost features in the optical spectrum. In this webinar, Thorlabs' Research and Development Engineer, Carl Borgentun, will explain the cause for the spectral ghosts and how to minimize their impact.

Presented by Dr. Carl Borgentun, OSA Research and Development Engineer, Thorlabs

The Redstone® OSA302 covers a wide wavelength range:
250 - 2500 nm or 4000 - 40 000 cm-1.

The Search for Life Beyond Earth: How It’s Done, Where It Stands, and Why It Matters

In just the last 10 years, we have learned that planets are ubiquitous and that so-called habitable-zone Earth-like worlds may number in the tens of billions in the Milky Way galaxy alone. The statistical probability that life has only emerged on one small and insignificant planet around a very ordinary star is zero! But – we have yet to find definitive proof. And yet the search for life beyond Earth is more than just an exercise in human curiosity. It is also an opportunity to discover ourselves in the process, to understand where we fit in, how we got here, and why we even exist. SETI Institute CEO Bill Diamond will describe the science behind the search for life beyond Earth and why it matters to humankind and indeed to all life on our own planet.

Hi Thorlabs, First of all, I really enjoy all the webinars so far and they are very helpful! I have seen several videos from Thorlabs about aligning but they are rather short or specific to certain scenarios. Therefore, I wonder if we can have a webinar that goes over alignment more systematically, e.g. the basics of alignment, how to use alignment targets/tools, some of the tricks we can use and common mistakes. It will be cool to have some common real-life examples (from easy to hard) too. Best, SC
