Optical Table Workstation with an Under Table Drawer ![]() Please Wait
Features
Thorlabs offers a large variety of storage solutions for our optical table workstations. They allow lab supplies, such as general tools, electrical accessories, or fiber accessories to be stored away but close at hand for easy access when needed. Our modular array of storage options can be placed above, below, or at table level depending on preference. Linbins and component trays provide organization of small to medium sized tools around the workspace, while a tool caddy can hold larger objects such as a BT17 (BT17/M) Benchtop Organizer. A cable tray is also available for sorting and holding cables in the lab. We also offer CMS021 cable identification ties that are ideal when sorting wires using our cables trays. Similar to our shelving options and other accessories, all of our storage options can be selectively added when the need arises, allowing for a fully modular and customizable workspace.

This versatile under table drawer assembly is designed to fit any of our optical table frames and is ideal for general storage. The drawer measures 1000 mm x 750 mm x 60 mm (39.37" x 29.53" x 2.36") and bolts to the upper side of the front and rear tie bars of the Nexus frame as shown to the right. The drawer is made from 1.2 mm (0.05") thick steel with a black powder-coated paint finish. It moves on smooth roller bearing runners and has a coupling on the drawer slide, allowing for removal of the drawer from the housing. The drawer features a central bulkhead, which splits the area in half. The unit is supplied with eight screws for attaching the drawer to the table frame using a 13 mm or adjustable wrench. The drawer unit can be attached directly to our 1 m (3') deep optical table frame and contains adjustable support rails to accommodate deeper 1.2 m (4') or 1.5 m (4.8') optical tables frames. For more details on installation, please see the manual, which is available by clicking on the red Docs icon ( The UTD002 drawer divider kit is provided to allow the user to build smaller storage bins. As shown to the right, it is comprised of two plastic pieces that span the depth of the drawer and two that span half the width. The dividers can be moved and interlocked to build different arrangements. They can also be cut into smaller lengths to build custom bin sizes. ![]()
This Magnetic Storage Tray is ideal for storing small tools, cap screws, and other fasteners securely. The tray can be magnetically held horizontally or vertically to any ferrous surface such as an optical table or breadboard. When attached to a vertical surface, a plastic cowl holds nonmagnetic or loose items as shown to the right. The cowl pivots and clips in place at the upper and lower ends of travel to prevent accidental movement. A rubber cover on the Ø3.25" (Ø82.5 mm) magnet protects the mounting surface from damage. The magnet serves two purposes; it attaches the tray to the ferrous surface and holds magnetic parts within the tray. ![]() ![]() Click to Enlarge TFC100 and TFC200 Shown Fitted to an Optical Table Frame Overhead Shelf Unit and Being Used to Redirect Cables from a Power Supply and Oscilloscope
These cable trays are designed to be attached either underneath or to the edge of the overhead shelf unit frame, using the M6 bolts supplied. They are made from 3 mm (1/8") thick steel wire with a powder-coated plastic finish. Measuring 92.0 mm (3.62") high by 109.4 mm (4.31") deep, they are offered in four lengths: 1.0 m (3.29'), 1.25 m (4.1'), 2.0 m (6.56'), and 2.5 m (8.2'). The two shorter trays are supplied with two mounting brackets, while both longer racks are shipped with three brackets. Please note that an overhead shelf unit must be fitted to the table frame in order to install these cable trays. ![]()
These Storage Trays consist of a steel tray and a front-located steel rack. The top tray includes a removable tool caddy that can be placed along the top tray for flexible storage and organization of tools, components, and accessories. The rack contains two rows of slots for flexible positioning of the four included plastic storage bins, as shown in the image to the left. Hinged clamps are used for placement on the posts, as shown in the image to the right. Simply slide the shelf along the post to the desired height above the work surface and then secure it using the clamps.
The PSY155/S is 950 mm wide, while the PSY156/S is 1250 mm wide. The trays can be supported by two 750 mm or 1000 mm tall posts (sold separately) that can be attached to the workstation's front or rear lean bars. Two overhead trays can be mounted onto a single set of mounting posts. Each storage tray comes with two hinged clamps for attachment to mounting posts, as shown in the image to the right. To install the tray, secure the clamps at the desired height on the posts. The tray can then be lowered onto the clamps and attached using the provided M6 cap screws. At this point the tray can be repositioned or leveled as required. For more details on installation, please see the manual, which is available by clicking on the red Docs icon ( The bottom of the tray also contains five M6 taps spaced for compatibility with our PSY240 LED light strips or HDPS12 power outlets. ![]() ![]() Click to Enlarge Hinged Clamps Allow for Quick Attachment to Mounting Posts ![]() *These shelves can also be attached to our TFA4 Overhead Shelf Post Adapter, however, an overhead shelving unit will be also required.
The PSY320 and PSY320/S Component Trays can be used to hold a variety of items, such as screws, hex keys, or other tools, near the working surface. A 12.7 mm (0.50") high lip on the four edges prevents parts from falling off of the tray, while the 300 mm x 300 mm (11.81" x 11.81") surface provides adequate space to hold needed tools. Each tray comes with a PSY322 Hinged Locking Clamp, shown to the right, to attach it to Ø1.5" mounting posts. Its design allows the tray to be installed anywhere on the post without removing the existing shelves. The clamp will hold the vertical position on the post while allowing for free rotational movement around the axis of the post. A 750 mm (29.5") tall post is included with the PSY320 tray to attach directly to the lean bars of the optical table frame system. If additional trays are needed we offer the PSY320/S, which do not include mounting posts. These additional trays are also ideal if you wish to use our 1000 mm (39.4") tall mounting posts (sold separately) instead of the 750 mm (29.5") tall posts provided with the PSY320, or if you wish to attach the tray to the TFA4 Overhead Shelf Post Adapter. ![]()
This versatile tool/parts caddy is ideal for general storage. It measures 340 mm x 168 mm x 77 mm A divider kit is also provided to allow the user to build smaller storage bins. It is comprised of two plastic pieces that span the length of the caddy and two that span the width. The dividers allow for different arrangements and bin sizes to be built by moving and interlocking them in different ways. Custom bin sizes can be made by cutting dividers into various sizes, while removing them completely provides the space needed to house our BT17(/M) benchtop organizer. ![]() ![]() Click to Enlarge Locking Clamp Positioned Under Our PSY321 Breadboard Mounting Bracket, Holding it in Place and Allowing for Free Rotation of the Bracket
Thorlabs PSY322 Hinged Locking Clamps are the ideal solution for preventing the unwanted movement of accessories along the axis of the post. Locking the clamp in place (5 mm hex key included) directly under a post-mounted accessory, as shown to the right, prevents the accessory from sliding down the post when it is loosened for adjustments. This also allows mounted shelving or brackets to be freely rotated around the axis of the post to a needed position at any time. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
