The liquid-cooled top plate can be used separately from the base for space-constrained applications. When only the top plate is used, care should be taken to avoid cable strain damaging the laser diode pins.

Thorlabs' LCM100(/M) Mount is designed to work with Thorlabs' High-Heat Load (HHL) lasers such as our Distributed-Feedback (DFB) Quantum Cascade (QCL) or Interband Cascade Lasers (ICL), Fabry-Perot (FP) QCLs, and other lasers with similar package types and pin assignments (see the Pin Diagrams tab for more details). An integrated thermistor and fittings for liquid-cooling allow for up to 140 W of heat dissipation at 25 °C from a user supplied cooling system. The LCM100(/M) mount also has an internally connected short flexible cable to connect a standard 10-Pin HHL laser package for added strain relief and protection from pulling of the laser cables.
Liquid-Cooling Capabilities
The LCM100(/M) mount has barbed fittings designed for 11/64" ID tubing placed on a face different from the laser connectors to avoid damage from spilled liquid. A plastic gasket and foam paste separate the liquid-cooled top plate from the rest of the mount to thermally isolate and avoid condensation in the base where the electrical connections are made. For precise temperature control applications, we recommend using the LCM100(/M) mount with Thorlabs' LK220 thermoelectric liquid chiller and the CDTX Coolflow DTX refrigerant antifreeze with corrosion inhibitors. The LCM100(/M) mount can also be used with user-supplied process cooling water, water from a radiative cooler or chiller, or most ethylene glycol-based coolants.
A TH10K Thermistor is integrated into the top cold plate. Users can interface with the thermistor via the 2.5 mm stereo jack on the side of the cold plate between the coolant liquid inlet and outlet ports.
Mounting Features
The laser mounting surface on the top plate features eight 4-40 (M3 x 0.5) threaded mounting holes allowing for three different HHL laser mounting positions horizontally along the cold plate. The LCM100(/M) mount has 8-32 (M4 x 0.7) tapped mounting holes on three sides and machined slots for CL6 table clamps on two sides. The bottom base of the mount also has four 8-32 (M4 x 0.7) and three 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) tapped holes for mounting to Thorlabs' posts, slotted bases, or table clamps. The liquid-cooled top plate can be removed and used without the strain relief cable by unscrewing the four M4 x 0.7 screws on the top of the mount, as shown in the photo to the right. The four counterbored through holes in the top plate can then be used with 8-32 (M4 x 0.7) screws for mounting. The top plate also has 8-32 (M4 x 0.7) tapped mounting holes on three sides and machined slots for CL6 clamps on two sides. Please see the Mounting Options tab for more details.
Recommended Controllers and Cables
We recommend using our ITC4002QCL and ITC4005QCL LD and TEC controllers for QCL and ICL lasers combined with the either the CAB4007A or the CAB4007B connector cables. The CAB4007A and CAB4007B cables are made of Hi-Flex™†, high-current cable designed for use with the ITC400xQCL controllers and Thorlabs' standard HHL laser packages. We recommend that the CAB4007A connector cable is used with the fully assembled LCM100(/M) mount. The CAB4007B connector cable is recommended for use when the top plate has been removed from the base. In this configuration, the CAB4007B connects the HHL package of the laser diode directly to the ITC LD / TEC controller. With the top plate in its standalone configuration, care must be taken to avoid pulling the CAB4007B cable as this could damage the laser diode. Other laser and TEC controllers may also be used as long as the specifications meet those needed for safe operation and connection of the laser diode.

Mounting Configurations for the LCM100(/M) Liquid-Cooled Mount
For maximum laser protection, we recommend using the fully assembled LCM100(/M) mount with the strain relief cable in conjunction with the CAB4007A cable (sold separately). For space-constrained applications, the top cold plate can be used separately, without any loss to the cooling capacity, by removing the four M4 x 0.7 screws (shown in the photo to the right) securing it to the lower block of the mount with the strain relief cable attached. In this configuration, the CAB4007B cable is recommended for connection to the laser diode and TEC controller.

LCM100(/M) Mount
The LCM100(/M) mount features a strain relief cable with a Flat 10-Pin HHL Female Connector connected internally to a Female 9W4 Connector on the base of the mount. The CAB4007A Laser / TEC Connector is recommended for connecting a Laser and TEC controller to the mount. The mount also contains an embedded TH10K thermistor for temperature sensing. The pin readout for a 2.5 mm Thermistor Stereo Jack (not included in the LCM100(/M) mount) is given below.

The LCM100(/M) mount is designed for Thorlabs' HHL laser packages and other lasers with a standard HHL package. The mount is configured with a custom 9W4 connector internally connected to a short, Hi-Flex cable that connects to the laser diode package. The base of the mount and short cable provide strain relief and protection against any accidental pulling of the laser driver cable. The CAB4007A connector cable can be used with the full mount while the CAB4007B connector cable is designed for when only the top cold plate is in use. These cables are available for purchase separate from the LCM100(/M) mount. Please see the Pin Diagrams tab for more details on the pin assignments and cable connections.
The LCM100(/M) mount has fittings for 11/64" ID PU hoses (HPU6) which can be coupled to the user-supplied cooling system via the Valved CPC®† In-Line Coupling Components (QVF6 and QVM6). A spring lock hose clamp is used to secure one of the PU tubes onto the barbed fitting of the LCM100(/M) mount, and then a pair of QVF6 and QVM6 couplers are used to connect the 80 mm PU tubing to the cooling system. The QVF6 and QVM6 utilize a quick-connect spring loaded valve which limits spills of liquids when they are disconnected from each other.

The CAB4007A and CAB4007B connector cables are Hi-Flex, unshielded cables designed for high-current applications, where the laser diode (LD) and thermoelectric cooler (TEC) currents exceed most standard cable limits.
The CAB4007A cable connects the complete LCM100(/M) mount to ITC400xQCL series controllers via the 9W4 connector. The CAB4007B cable connects any HHL laser with a standard 10-Pin HHL package directly to an ITC400xQCL series controller via the Flat 10-Pin HHL Female Connector. The CAB4007B connector cable can be used with the LCM100(/M) mount when only the top cold plate is in use. For the pinout of the CAB4007A and CAB4007B cables, see the Pin Diagrams tab.
Please pay attention to the controller specifications when the CAB4007A or CAB4007B connector cables are used with a controller other than the ITC400xQCL controllers to ensure that the cables will safely connect to the controller(s).

Thorlabs offers various polyurethane hoses and coupling inserts that allow for easy connection to a water or coolant supply. All items can withstand up to 120 psi of pressure and can be used with water, ethanol-based coolants, or any glycol-based coolant, such as our CDTX Coolant.
The 5 m Long Polyurethane (PU) Hoses have an inner diameter (ID) of 11/64" or 1/4" and outer diameter (OD) of 1/4" or 3/8". These hoses can be used in temperatures from -15 to 60 °C. These hoses are intended to be used alongside our in-line 1/4” OD or 3/8” OD coupling inserts and bodies.
The inserts have male connection ports, while the bodies have female connectors with a self-lock structure for secure connection. Inserts and bodies are intended to be used in pairs, as any coupling insert can mate with any coupling body. The QVF6 coupling body and QVM6 coupling insert can support HPU6 tubing with a 11/64" ID and 1/4" OD, while the QVF9 coupling insert and QVM9 coupling body can support HPU9 tubing with a 1/4" ID and 3/8" OD.
The hoses, inserts, and bodies can be used for quick connections to a variety of Thorlabs catalog items, as well as for conversion from 1/4" ID to 11/64" ID hose. These hoses and fittings are compatible with our Thermoelectric Liquid Chiller, Liquid-Cooled Cold Plates, Water-Cooled Breadboards, or Spatial Light Modulators.
