The C1011(/M) and C1045(/M) Ø1" (Ø25 mm) Post Mounting Clamps are an integral part of our Ø1" Post Assemblies, providing a rigid, general-purpose mounting surface. These mounting clamps can be used for fastening our wide array of optomechanical mounts in much the same way breadboards are commonly used. We also offer a horizontal mounting bracket.

The clamping mechanism is directly compatible with our Ø1" (Ø25 mm) RS-Series Posts. Vertical positioning is achieved by sliding the rear clamping mechanism along the length of the Ø1" (Ø25 mm) post. Once the desired vertical position is achieved, the clamping mechanism is actuated by turning the included quick-release handle. A ratchet-style mechanism allows the rotation of the handle to be adjusted without tightening or loosening the clamp: pull the handle outwards to disengage it and rotate it to a more convenient position. Quick-release handles are also offered separately below in case a replacement is needed.

The RSHA(/M) Adjustable Height Collar, also sold below, acts as a fine height adjuster with up to 0.20'' (5.1 mm) of vertical adjustment, has a resolution of 0.025" (0.64 mm) per revolution of the actuator ring, and is compatible with our Ø1'' (Ø25.0 mm) posts.

Hi, could I ask, is it possible to deliver this one (or something similar) with unanodized surfaces, i.e. to be vacuum-compatible? Cheers, Michal

Is it possible for Thorlabs to offer just detachable plate of C1045/M?

Would RM1B clamp fit under C1001 and allow C1001 to rotate freely on top of the clamp? Wondering if the clamp would interfere with the plate or the quick release handle.
llamb  (posted 2019-12-09 01:36:01.0)
Thank you for your feedback. No, the RM1B clamp would not allow the C1001 to rotate freely on top of it. When the RM1B is mounted flush underneath the Ø1" post clamp of the C1001, there can be about <30° of rotational freedom before the extended mounting plate of the C1001 interferes with the RM1B.

I had to build systems with this part (C1001), and the problem is, it would be great if some of the holes in the matrix were counterbore. Because it would allow ultra-rigid locking of optical mounts like the KC1-T without any intermediate pillar or plate, without the random angle that you have with a headless screw. Basically, when I had to use this part, I machined a custom matrix plate with couterbore holes myself!

Response from Chris at Thorlabs: Thank you for your inquiry. I'm not sure how useful it would be though to have couterbores on the C1001. You would need to remove the front plate to mount anything, and would need to have it at the correct angle before putting it back on the post mounted back piece. If you are mounting only one item with an 8-32 tap, perhaps it would be more useful to use something like the RM1A or RM1C, each found here. The RM1A has a counterbore for an 8-32 cap screw. The RM1C has a rotating 8-32 threaded piece to allow for adjustment while mounted. http://www.thorlabs.com/newgrouppage9.cfm?objectgroup_id=2012

Instead of the mounting plate with all the holes, would an angle bracket like the AP90 be possible for this mount? I could see it being useful for mounting small instrument shelves for low-weight applications.
cdaly  (posted 2013-08-22 10:30:00.0)
Response From Chris at Thorlabs: Thank you for your feedback. At this time, there is no way to mount an angle bracket like the AP90 to the C1001. The slot size is too wide for the current mounting holes, so a new bracket would need to be introduced. I will see if we can add this to our product line, but in the meantime, if you would be able to use the 1.5" posts series, the C1505 seems to match your description pretty well.

Response from Tim at Thorlabs: Thank you for your feedback! In much the same way a breadboard provides a general mounting surface, the C1001 provides this feature utilizing our 1" diameter posts. They were designed, with a large array of ¼”-20 and 8-32 tapped mounting holes, to allow versatility to adapt to the user's mounting needs.

Quick-Release Handle

Click for Details
Left: C10QR Quick-Release Handle Being Attached to the C1045 Post Mounting Clamp
Right: Pull Back to Rotate the Position of the Handle
  • Quick-Release Handle Allows Post Clamps to be Easily Repositioned
  • Provides More Control and Feel when Locking and Unlocking a Clamp
  • Handle can be Rotated Without Actuating the Locking Screw
  • 0.47" (12.0 mm) Long, 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) Threaded Stud

The C10QR(/M) Quick-Release Handle, included with the Ø1" post clamps above, is also offered separately. In many cases a cap screw is used to lock a flexure-based clamp in place on a post, which requires a balldriver for adjustments. Depending on the mounted load, using a balldriver can be difficult, or even unsafe. This quick-release handle mitigates this problem by allowing the clamp to be hand-tightened, ensuring better control over the amount of torque applied to tighten or loosen the clamp. This also decreases the amount of time needed for basic setup and alignment by eliminating the need for additional balldrivers and allowing for a quick way to secure a clamp.

Once installed, rotating the 1.44" (36.5 mm) long handle engages a 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) threaded stud to tighten or loosen the clamp. The internal ratchet-type mechanism allows for the handle's rotational position to be adjusted without actuating the mounting stud. Simply pull the handle outwards to disengage it from the mounting stud, as shown in the image to the right, then rotate it to a more convenient position. This feature ensures that the handle will always be accessible to the user.

Adjustable Height Collar for Ø1" (25.0 mm) Posts

RSHA on a Ø1" Post Below the C1015 Mounting Post Bracket
  • 0.025" (0.64 mm) Travel per Revolution
  • 0.20" (5.1 mm) Vertical Adjustment Range
    • Maximum Height: 1.29'' (32.6 mm)
    • Minimum Height: 1.09'' (27.6 mm)
  • Vertical Adjustment can be Fixed with Included Slotted Locking Ring

The RSHA(/M) Adjustable Height Collar for Ø1" (25.0 mm) Posts offers convenient height adjustment for post mounted hardware. An easy-to-access actuator ring allows fine height adjustment at 0.025" (0.64 mm) per revolution. This collar also allows components to be freely rotated without changing height.

To use, slip the collar over a Ø1" (Ø25.0 mm) post and hold at the desired height. Tighten the 1/4"-20 (M6) cap screw to secure the collar's position on the post via the flexure clamp. Place an optomechanic around the post on top of the collar and twist the actuator ring to adjust the component's height. The height can be fixed by turning the attached slotted locking ring, which includes four slots that can be used with our SPW504 Spanner Wrench. The nylon ring on top of the collar prevents marring while adjusting the height.
