The LCFH1(/M) and LCFH2(/M) Removable Filter Holders are based upon a precision dovetail design, ensuring good position stability and repeatability. The LCFH1(/M) features an SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) bore that accepts Ø1" optics up to 0.29" (7.4 mm) thick, while the LCFH2(/M) features an SM2-threaded (2.035"-40) bore that accepts Ø2" optics up to 0.30" (7.6 mm) thick. These mounts are designed for use with a wide variety of Thorlabs' optics such as our Dichroic or Neutral Density Filters, Economy Mirrors, or Frosted Glass Alignment Disks. The optic is secured in the mount using the included SM1RR or SM2RR retaining ring.
Extra SM1-threaded filter holder inserts are available separately for the LCFH1(/M) and SM2-threaded filter holder inserts are available for the LCFH2(/M). In addition, blank plate inserts for each mount, also available separately, can be used as a manual shutter or machined to suit your specific requirements.
Cage System Overview
The Cage Assembly System provides a convenient way to construct large optomechanical systems with an established line of precision-machined building blocks designed for high flexibility and accurate alignment.
16 mm, 30 mm, and 60 mm Cage System Standards
Thorlabs offers three standards defined by the center-to-center spacing of the cage assembly rods (see image below). The 16 mm cage, 30 mm cage, and 60 mm cage standards are designed to accomodate Ø1/2", Ø1", and Ø2" optics, respectively. Specialized cage plates that allow smaller optics to be directly inserted into our larger cage systems are also available.
The flexibility of our Cage Assembly System stems from well-defined mounting and thread standards designed to directly interface with a wide range of specialized products. The three most prevalent thread standards are our SM05 Series (0.535"-40 thread), SM1 Series (1.035"-40 thread), and SM2 Series (2.035"-40 thread), all of which were defined to house the industry's most common optic sizes. Essential building blocks, such as our popular lens tubes, directly interface to these standards.

|Cage Rods||16 mm||These rods are used to connect cage plates, optic mounts, and other components in the cage system. The SR Series Cage Rods are compatible with our 16 mm cage systems, while the 30 mm and 60 mm cage systems use ER Series Cage Rods.|

They may have SM-threaded central bores, smooth bores sized for industry standard optics or to accommodate the outer profile of our SM Series Lens Tubes, or specialized bores for other components such as our FiberPorts.|

The LCFH1(/M) Removable Filter Holder is a stackable filter block designed to integrate easily into our 60 mm cage system or to be post-mounted on a breadboard. The filter holder offers internal SM1 (1.035"-40) threading with a fixed retaining lip and an SM1RR retaining ring. It can hold Ø1" optics up to 0.29" (7.4 mm) thick.
The precision, spring-loaded, dovetail design of the removable inner body ensures reproducible positioning and eliminates unwanted movements to ensure repeatability. Multiple filter holders can be continually stacked in our 60 mm cage system, provided an equivalent length of cage rods is available for support. All four of the cage rods can pass through the cage rod clearance holes on the LCFH1(/M).
Extra SM1-threaded filter plate inserts (Item # LCFH1-F) are available separately. In addition, the LCFH1-B Blank Plate Insert can also be purchased separately. The blank plate can be used as a manual shutter or can be machined to suit your specific requirements, with the aid of the center drill mark.

The LCFH2(/M) Removable Filter Holder is a light-tight, stackable filter block designed to integrate easily into our 60 mm cage system or to be post mounted on a breadboard. Unlike the LCFH1(/M) above, this light-tight design is achieved with a permanent O-ring mounted on the front face and a double-flanged top plate on the removable inner body.
The filter holder insert can accommodate Ø2" optics up to 0.30" (7.6 mm) thick and is equipped with SM2 (2.035"-40) threading on one side and a fixed retaining lip on the other. The optic is held in place with the included SM2RR retaining ring. The housing of the filter holder has SM2 threading on both sides for easy integration into an SM2 lens tube system. The precision, spring-loaded, dovetail design of the removable inner body eliminates unwanted movements to ensure reproducible positioning. The spring-plunger tension of the LCFH2(/M) can be adjusted via the slotted setscrew located on the side of the housing if necessary.
Multiple filter holders can be continually stacked in our 60 mm cage system, provided an equivalent length of cage rods is available for support. The cage rods can pass through the cage rod clearance holes on the bottom of the LCFH2(/M); however, they thread into the top holes.
Extra SM2-threaded filter holder inserts (LCFH2-F) are available separately. In addition, the LCFH2-B Blank Plate, also sold separately, can be used as a manual shutter or machined to suit your specific requirements. All of these items feature two laser-engraved boxes for labeling on the top.
