Thorlabs' IsoPlate Vibration Damping Systems provide passive vibration isolation for medium-sensitivity microscopy measurements. They consist of a lightweight support base with pneumatic isolators at all four corners. A choice of breadboards is available separately, with an array of 1/4"-20 or M6 tapped holes, or an untapped (no holes) work surface. This two-piece design is simple to install and minimizes coupling between the microscope, table, and floor. It is compatible with any breadboard and microscope pair which has a combined weight that is less than 180 kg.

The IsoPlate support plate contains four rubber pads, underneath which are four inflated cushions. A pair of these cushions shares an air reservoir, and the remaining two cushions have independent reservoirs. This arrangement provides stable, three-point dynamics to the system. Air suspension is achieved by three Schrader valves on the front panel of the IsoPlate, which can be inflated by a standard foot pump.

I recently purchased PTT600600. However, I was not satisfied with its performance. I tried to inject using a manipulator but the tip of glass capillary is shaking too much. Although it may be partially due to the manipulator, this antvibration platfrom seems to be not sensitive to adjust a subtle vibration. In addition, there is no air pressure gauge so I am really not so sure whether I put enough or too much air into it. Although the foot pump has an air pressure gauge, it is also hard to accurately measure the air pressure, since the adapter of foot pump doesn't really fit tightly in this platform. In the end, I gave up on using this.

Thank you for your feedback. Performance issues with the IsoPlate system can be attributed to a number of factors. As this is a bench top solution, vibrations from the surface that the IsoPlate can be translated to mounted equipment. The type of bench or table used to mount the IsoPlate should be carefully considered as a stable base will greatly improve performance. The IsoPlate System isolates vibrations most effectively as the load approaches the weight capacity of the unit. It is possible that loading extra weight onto the unit will improve performance. Can I put a breadboard which is larger than the IsoPlate on the IsoPlate? e.g. a 600 x 1200 mm breadboard on the 600 x 900 IsoPlate.

Response from Charles at Thorlabs: Hello, this should not be a problem. Even a 60 mm Nexus breadboard this size would still be within the load capacity and this will not affect the isolation.

Response from Radu at Thorlabs: Hello Mike. The recommended environmental temperature range for this system is -10 to 60 deg C. For very short time scales, it can be pushed to more extreme temperatures: -20 to 80 deg C. With that being said, significant thermal fluctuations will lead to significant fluctuations in height. If you are only looking to eliminate high-frequency noise, the system should still be suitable as thermal drift would probably be quasi-static in comparison. However, if thermal drift would be problematic, then we can't recommend this system.
