Thorlabs' Customizable Enclosure Frames are designed to enable the creation of a custom work environment around Nexus optical tables, ScienceDesk workstations, or other setups that fit within the enclosure frame area. The LFE1220 Wraparound Enclosure is designed to tightly encompass the surface of a 1.2 m x 2.0 m (4' x 6') optical table while not making contact with the table sides in order to minimize vibrations. The LFE1220W Walkway Enclosure Frame is large enough to provide a walkway on all four sides when centered over a 1.2 m x 2.0 m (4' x 6') optical table, although it can be used with other setups that fit inside the frame as well. Both enclosure frames include panels that cover the frame ceiling.

Each enclosure frame is composed of rails that are compatible with our transparent PVC strip curtains, laser safety panels, and the PSY240E 850 mm (33.46") long LED light strip, which are available separately below. The rail frames are also compatible with our 50 mm & 75 mm construction rail accessories, including T-nuts and screws, mounting brackets and feet, rail joiners, and channel inserts. Users can also customize the frames by adding their own accessories, such as HEPA filter units and air quality monitors. Alternatively, we also offer Laminar Flow Enclosures based on these enclosure frames that include HEPA filtration, an air quality monitor, LED light strip, and soft wall transparent curtains for situations where a clean room environment is desired.

Please note that these enclosures require assembly, a manual process that requires four people to work on at least one of the assembly steps. Each fully assembled enclosure is designed to enclose a Nexus optical table. Tables are not included and must be purchased separately.   • Maximum load rating applies only when the frame is stationary and is resting on the rubber feet of the casters. When the rubber feet are raised and the frame rests on the caster wheels (i.e. when moving the frame), ensure that no additional loads are attached to the LFE frame.

The LFE1220W Walkway Enclosure Frame is a free-standing frame with roof panels that also provides a walkway around the optical table. While this enclosure can be used with any table that fits inside, they are specifically designed to work with a 1.2 m x 2.0 m (4' x 6') Nexus Optical Table: the enclosure will encompass 625 mm and 525 mm of walkway space on the short and long sides, respectively, of a 1.2 m x 2.0 m table (see drawing to the lower left).

The frame does not touch the table in order to avoid the transmission of vibrations from the frame to the table. Castors are located at bottom of each leg of the enclosure and provide freedom of movement. Lowering the feet of the enclosure allows it to remain stationary.

The frame is composed of rails that are compatible with our PVC strip curtains (sold separately below) and 50 mm & 75 mm construction rail accessories, including T-nuts and screws, mounting brackets and feet, rail joiners, and channel inserts. These accessories aid in the creation of a custom work environment surrouding the optical table surface. For lighting, we also offer the PSY240E LED light strip (sold separately below).

These curtain kits add plastic barriers on the sides of our LFE1220 and LFE1220W Frame Enclosures. Each kit incorporates a number of soft wall transparent curtain panels which can be used to shield the fitted side from passing traffic and other interference. When combined with other components, e.g. a HEPA Fan Filter Unit (FFU), these kits can also be used to create a laminar flow environment inside the enclosure. The strips attach to the top rails of the frames using included hardware. Four separate kits are required to completely enclose each frame (two LFELSC8 kits and two LFELSC14 kits for the LFE1220 frame; two LFELSC14 kits and two LFELSC21 kits for the LFE1220W frame).

Each Laser Safety Panel Kit includes a laser safety fabric panel and all of the hardware needed to mount it to the to the 75 mm rails that make up the LFE1220 Enclosure Frame. Each panel is made from a rubber compound material, which is also used to make Thorlabs' Laser Safety Fabric and Safety Panels for Optical Enclosures. This material is both flame retardant and certified to EN 12254: 2010(E)*. These panels can be mounted to the LFE1220 using the included attachment bar and 2.5 mm hex key. Separate panels can connect via magnetic strips, and six are needed for total coverage of an LFE1220 frame (two LFELP6 panels for each long side and one LFELP7 for each short side). The back of the panels come with straps to hold them open when their coverage is not needed. The front of each laser safety panel includes a document pocket and a card which specifies the part number, manufacture date, and protection levels provided at specific wavelengths. Thorlabs also offers Laser Safety Curtain Systems that can be used to enclose larger spaces.
