Features

Thorlabs' DFM1BS(/M) Beamsplitter Cube is designed to hold Ø1" optics, such as excitation and emission filters, and a 1" beamsplitter cube in the center. This cube consists of a kinematic base with four SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) ports surrounded by four 4-40 tapped holes for compatibility with 30 mm cage systems. The ports are at an optical axis height of 1.25" and 30 mm for the imperial and metric versions, respectively. Magnets in the base and insert of the cube ensure repeatable positioning of the cube within a cage system. The top is engraved with a diagram of the beamsplitter location and indicates the light path through the cube. To help keep track of your optics, spaces are provided on the top to write labels for the mounted filters.

Additional cube inserts (sold separately below) can be used to exchange optics and to easily exchange alternate sets of optics within an aligned setup. This enables switching between fluorescence imaging of different wavelengths or changing the direction of the reflected light. The cube base is also separately available for purchase. The same base is used in Thorlabs' Fluorescence Filter Cube and Beam-Turning Cube Systems, enabling a user to exchange right-angle mirrors/prisms, fluorescence filter sets, and beamsplitter cubes within an aligned optical setup. Two adjacent kinematic cubes can be connnected using a Cage Cube Connector (sold separately below); the connector can be attached via the 4-40 tapped holes and unthreaded alignment holes surrounding each port.

Smart Pack Goals

  • Reduce Weight of Packaging
  • Increase Usage of Recyclable Materials
  • Improve Packing Integrity
  • Decrease Shipping Costs

Thorlabs' Smart Pack Initiative is aimed at minimizing waste while providing adequate protection for our products. By eliminating any unnecessary packaging, implementing design changes, and utilizing eco-friendly materials, this initiative seeks to reduce the environmental impact of our product packaging.

The kinematic beamsplitter cube packaging is made from over 60% recycled paper products. We are transitioning from foam and non-recycled cardboard to recycled paper products to reduce the amount of CO2 produced per kg of packing materials. All products on this page have transitioned, or are in the process of transitioning to recycled paper.

As we move through our product line, we will indicate re-engineered, eco-friendly packaging with our Smart Pack logo, which can be seen in the image to the right.

Does the DFM1T5 include both the base and the insert or does the base need to be purchased separately as DFM1B?
YLohia  (posted 2021-02-24 03:46:49.0)
The DFM1T5 is only the insert-- the base should be purchased separately as the DFM1B. Alternately, the DFM1BS contains both the base and the insert.

    30 mm Cage System Compatibility
  • Three Bottom-Located 1/4"-20 (M6) Tapped Holes for Post Mounting

This Kinematic Beamsplitter Cube consists of a post-mountable cube base and a removable insert that mounts Ø1" optics and a 1" beamsplitter cube (sold separately). See the table to the lower right for acceptable optic sizes.

The cube insert has four ports for excitation and emission filters. Excitation and emission filters can be mounted in two possible configurations (see the diagram to the right) and are held using the included SM1RR retaining rings, which can be tightened or loosened with our SPW602 spanner wrench (sold separately). The mounting cover that holds the beamsplitter within the cage cube can be removed using the included 2 mm hex key. Users can change the orientation of the beamsplitter by removing the cover and rotating the beamsplitter manually. The top of the cube is engraved with a diagram of the beamsplitter location and indicates the light path through the cube. To help keep track of your optics, spaces are provided on the top to write labels for the mounted filters.

All four sides of the filter cube base have an SM1-threaded port for compatibility with our Ø1" lens tubes. The SM1 port is centered between four 4-40 tapped holes for compatibility with Ø6 mm cage rods in a 30 mm cage system, at an optical axis height of 1.25" or 30.0 mm from the bottom of the imperial or metric cube, respectively. The cube base has three bottom-located 1/4"-20 (M6) tapped holes that are directly compatible with top taps of our Ø1" and Ø1.5" posts, and the bottom tap of our Ø1/2" posts, using a user-supplied 1/4"-20 (M6) setscrew. Alternatively, an AE8E25E (AE4M6M) thread adapter can be used for compatibility with the top tap of our Ø1/2" posts.

An empty kinematic beamsplitter cube insert, base, and cover plate are also sold separately below.

The Kinematic Beamsplitter Cube Insert (DFM1T5) and Base [DFM1B(/M)] allow users to switch between different filters and beamsplitter cubes in an aligned experimental setup. These items do not include any optics.

The DFM1T5 cube insert is designed to hold Ø1" optics and a 1" beamsplitter cube. See the table to the lower right for acceptable optic sizes. The mounting cover that holds the beamsplitter within the cage cube can be removed using the included 2 mm hex key. Users can change the orientation of the beamsplitter by removing the cover and rotating the beamsplitter manually. This insert is compatible with the beamsplitter cubes sold above as well as Thorlabs' Fluorescence Filter Cube and Beam-Turning Cube Systems.

All four sides of the DFM1B(/M) cube base have an SM1-threaded port for compatibility with our Ø1" lens tubes. The SM1 port is centered between four 4-40 tapped holes for compatibility with Ø6 mm cage rods in a 30 mm cage system, at an optical axis height of 1.25" or 30.0 mm from the bottom of the imperial or metric cube, respectively. Two DFM1-P01 Beam Turning Cubes Connected Using the C4W-CC Cage Cube Connector
  • Connect Two Beam Turning, Fluorescence Filter, or Beamspliter Cubes Side by Side
  • Remove and Interchange Cube Inserts while the Cube Bases are Connected
  • Compatible with C4W and C6W Cage Cubes

The C4W-CC Cage Cube Connector allows two kinematic beam turning, fluorescence filter, or beamsplitter cubes to be connected together as shown in the image to the right. Two pins on the C4W-CC are accepted by drilled holes on either side of any of the SM1-threaded (1.035"-40) ports on the cage cube faces to maintain alignment. Cube inserts can still be removed and inserted while the cube bases are connected.

The C4W-CC is also compatible with our 30 mm cage cubes.
