Features

  • Enhanced Chemical Resistance Cuvettes Crafted from:
    • Synthetic Quartz Glass for the 190 nm - 2.5 µm Wavelength Range
    • Borosilicate Glass for the 340 nm - 2.5 µm Wavelength Range
  • PTFE Stopper Included with Each Cuvette
  • Two Polished Windows for Spectroscopy Applications
  • 350 µL and 700 µL Capacities Available
  • Rectangular Footprint with 1 mm or 2 mm Transmitted Path Length

Our cuvettes are high-quality cells designed to hold liquid samples. Cuvettes with synthetic quartz glass construction can be used with UV light at wavelengths as low as 190 nm, as well as with visible and infrared light up to 2.5 µm, while cuvettes made from borosilicate glass are appropriate for the 340 nm to 2.5 µm wavelength range. Ideal for absorption spectroscopy experiments, each cuvette features two polished sides that can be cleaned using standard optics cleaning procedures. Each cuvette comes with a PTFE stopper top that prevents evaporation and provides a seal.

We offer standard micro sizes (see the tables below for more information), sold in packs of two. All cuvettes are engraved on the outer surface with the Item # and either a letter "Q" or “G”, which designates synthetic quartz glass or borosilicate glass construction, respectively, and the typical input side.

These cuvettes are assembled by heating the quartz glass or borosilicate glass to a high temperature and applying pressure to adhere the pieces together.

Solvent Compatibility
Enhanced chemical resistance cuvettes are compatible with corrosive solutions such as aqua regia. Contact Tech Support for instructions on cleaning the cuvettes found on this page.

For applications that require cuvettes with a standard 12.5 mm square outside dimension, we offer Synthetic Quartz Glass Cuvettes with 10 mm Path Length. These 10-mm-path-length cuvettes, which are available in macro, micro, and super micro sizes, are compatible with most spectrophotometers as well as our Cuvette Holder and Fiber Optic Filter and Cuvette Mounts. In contrast, the ≤2-mm-path-length cuvettes sold on this webpage are not designed for use with our Cuvette Holder and Fiber Optic Filter and Cuvette Mounts.

It's great that Thorlabs now sells 1 and 2 mm pathlength cuvettes, but there is one problem with these cuvettes I think. The inlet of these cuvettes is too narrow so the liquid inside is not pouring out even if I take the cuvette upside down or shaking it, making the cuvette cleaning process quite difficult and cumbersome. Can you widen the inlet so we can easily pour out the liquid inside and clean it much easier? Thank you!

Thank you for contacting Thorlabs. Per our experience, a syringe will help to aspirate the liquid inside the cuvette. Please take care to keep the cuvettes free from scratches during cleaning.

  • 350 µL and 700 µL Capacities Available
  • Sold in Packs of 2

These Synthetic Quartz Glass Cuvettes have two polished sides for use in absorption spectroscopy experiments and two frosted sides for handling. The polished sides can be cleaned using standard optics cleaning procedures. Since these cuvettes only have two polished windows, they are not appropriate for use in fluorescence spectroscopy where it is necessary to have four polished windows to allow measurement of the fluorescence at right angles to the beam path.

These cuvettes have a rectangular footprint and are available with 350 µL or 700 µL capacities. Note that the size of the outer dimensions and the transmitted path length through the sample vary for each item; please see the table below for detailed information. Each cuvette is engraved with the Item # as well as a letter "Q" that designates its syntheric quartz glass construction, and each comes with a PTFE stopper to create a seal and to prevent evaporation and atmospheric contamination of the contents. The stopper should be inserted gently into the top of the cuvette; excessive force will cause difficulty with removing the stopper.

For enhanced chemical resistance, each cuvette is made by finely polishing the quartz glass pieces before attaching them together, consequently providing smoother seams. This method allows the cuvette to hold solutions with corrosive properties, similar to those of nitrohydrochloric acid (aqua regia), without being damaged.
