Features
- Female F-Mount Holds Nikon Lens
- Male F-Mount Holds Nikon Camera
- External SM2 (2.035"-40) Threading for Compatibility with Ø2" Lens Tubes and Components
Thorlabs' F-Mount Adapter Rings allow for easy integration of Nikon F-Mount lenses and cameras into experimental setups using Thorlabs' optomechanical components. Both adapters feature SM2 (2.035"-40) external threading on one side, and thus are directly compatible with Thorlabs' internally SM2-threaded components, such as our Ø2" lens tubes. Our SM2NFMA Female F-Mount Adapter Ring is compatible with Nikon Ø35 mm lens assemblies. As seen in the photo and animation below, the SM2NFM2 Male F-Mount Adapter Ring is engraved with an alignment mark and attaches to F-Mount-compatible Nikon cameras. The quick connect/disconnect adapters securely hold an F-Mount-compatible lens or camera and lock in place with a spring-loaded button.

The SM2NFM2 easily secures a Ø2" lens tube and lens to a F-Mount-compatible Nikon camera. Lens and lens tube are sold separately. Nikon cameras are not available from Thorlabs.

Thanks for updating this part. We use the steel ring from this part in our mesoSPIM setups, and would like to know the size of the 6x screws that are used here to hold the ring. Can you please share this information?
Many thanks,
Nikita cdolbashian

These could also be found on the website by navigating to the "Threading Specs" tab on a product family page such as our Retaining Rings page: https://www.thorlabs.com/newgrouppage9.cfm?objectgroup_id=1535. user
(posted 2019-06-28 11:44:45.573) This adapter is terribly designed and made. The shiny internal surfaces create glare in my image. These surfaces need to be covered with non-reflective material. This should be expected, especially from a place like Thorlabs. I am hugely disappointed. llamb
(posted 2019-07-01 01:44:24.0) Thank you for contacting Thorlabs. We apologize for the issues you have been seeing. The Nikon bayonet component used in the SM2NFM[2] products is the same F-Mount bayonet component used in Nikon products as well. I have reached out to you directly if this product is not suitable for your application and to discuss a return. lokirune

(posted 2016-11-14 06:11:32.287) There should be a clear indication in the drawing, where the focal flange distance starts.
Or there should be a dimension in the drawing from the SM2-side thread stop to (virtual) chip postition. tfrisch

(posted 2016-03-23 14:59:32.387) Does the SM2NFM come with a way to control the aperture on the Nikon Lens? Is that the purpose of the lever I see in picture? Thank you, Mehmet. besembeson
(posted 2016-03-24 01:41:19.0) Response from Bweh at Thorlabs USA: No it doesn't. The lever is a release button when connected to the male mount. This is described at the following link: http://www.thorlabs.com/thorcat/19000/SM2NFM-AutoCADPDF.pdf robert.winsor
(posted 2013-09-13 08:22:02.44) This adapter is wonderful, but there is a very minor change that needs to be made. It's a good thing I have my own metal-cutting lathe, as I was able to repair the error. The aluminum part onto which the nikon flange is mounted has a recessed cut to make room for the flange springs. But the depth of the recessed cut is too short, and as a result the spring has too little travel remaining. It won't hold a mating flange with sufficient force (it's loose).
After I modified the depth of that recessed cut by about 0.015", the whole thing worked great.
Cheers,
Robert Winsor jlow
(posted 2013-09-18 16:42:00.0) Response from Jeremy at Thorlabs: Thank you very much for posting this feedback. It seems that the recessed cut is a bit shallower than it should have been. We are currently making the necessary changes to address that issue per your feedback. Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. mad-solutions
(posted 2013-07-01 14:39:36.913) Do you have it the other way around?:
Mounting you own made design using sm2 onto a Nikon or Line-Scan camera with F-mount? cdaly
(posted 2013-07-02 13:42:00.0) Response from Chris at Thorlabs: Thank you for your feedback. Currently, the only F-Mount adapter we offer is this configuration which lets you mount the f-mount objective to an SM2 threaded system. I will bring up your suggestion within our internal forums and see if we cannot get this added in the future. jlow
(posted 2012-11-06 15:47:00.0) Response from Jeremy at Thorlabs: The SM2NFM is not compatible with the Canon EF mount. I have posted this idea in our internal forum and we will look into the possibility of carrying this. jrestrep
(posted 2012-10-25 08:03:01.867) Hello, is this mount compatible with Canon EF lenses?, if not it would be good to have the product in the future, since EF mounts are very popular these days. John. bdada
(posted 2012-01-30 18:39:00.0) Response from Buki at Thorlabs:
Thank you for using our feedback forum. Unfortunately we do not have the reverse of the SM2 to F-Mount adapter. We will add your request to our internal product design forum.
In the meantime, depending on your assembly, we may be able to combine several products to achieve the same effect. We have contacted you to continue this conversation. peter.vanderwalle
(posted 2012-01-30 05:16:28.0) Can Thorlabs offer the reverse of this adapter? I would like to mount an SM2 system on an F-mount camera. Laurie
(posted 2008-09-15 16:07:00.0) Response from Laurie at Thorlabs to harryfong: Thank you for your interest in our Bayonet-Style Mounts. Unfortunately, a mount that would be compatible with a Minolta lens is not currently in the pipeline. However, we do have an internal forum for suggesting new product ideas, and I have entered your idea into that forum for consideration. That being said, currently, the only way to obtain such a mount would be to provide us with drawings. We would then show those to our machinists and have them produce a quote. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us. harryfong
(posted 2008-09-14 17:47:50.0) i found your site on a photo forum where somone was hoping to use A Minolta MD lens with this mounting system. I wish you made this in a Minolta MD mount also. The Minolta MD Lenses and glass is just as good as the Nikon lenses, and Abundantly available online in the used market. In most cases Minolta is half the price or less thain the nikons , and the higher end, faster lenses are even less thain the comparible Nikon ones. I know a few people that would buy this. I myself would want 2. technicalmarketing
(posted 2008-02-26 16:36:56.0) In response to acables post, we have updated the presentation to include information about the SM2 threading in the overview tab. acable
(posted 2008-02-15 11:04:22.0) It is not easy to see that this part also has SM2 series threads, i would suggest this be detailed in the main presentation, currently the only reference seems to be on the drawing that is offered on the Drawing tab. |
