Thorlabs' Rigid Platforms provide a secure and stable and stable platform for mounting hardware and devices into any system. Options include a 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) tapped platform or an insert holder which can be fit with a blank or 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) tapped platform. In each case, the platform or holder is held on a Ø1.5" solid stainless steel post by a secure dovetail clamp (see middle image above). Two 2.5 mm hex cap screws on the dovetail clamp lock or release the horizontal movement of the platform or holder. The height collar is secured using a 4 mm hex screw and enables the platform or holder to be rotated while keeping the height constant.
Thorlabs also offers an extended line of rigid stands for specialized areas of research such as electrophysiology.

I just bought several inserts for a Thorlabs rigid stand bought in 2014, and the captive screws for 3 different insert plates all seem too small for the rigid stand's insert holder! Can you help? I'd rather not have to pay for a whole new stand (and wait for it - I'm on a schedule!) bwood

Each of these rigid stands includes an 8" x 2.36" (200 mm x 59.9 mm mm) platform with 24 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) threaded holes at 1" (25.0 mm) spacings. When the platform is extended fully (i.e., both dovetail locking screws can still be engaged), the outermost edge of the platform will support a load of 20 lbs (9 kg). To allow fine tuning of the location of the mounted equipment, the rail platform features a dovetail on the underside. This dovetail, which is also used in Thorlabs' 66 mm optical rails, is held in place by two screws that accept a 2.5 mm balldriver. Loosening these screws lets the dovetail platform translate horizontally over a 6.43" or 160.0 mm range, respectively. This long adjustment range also lets the red post holder be positioned over a range of locations on the tabletop.
The base can be secured to a tabletop via four counterbored slots that accept 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) cap screws. The base is also compatible with the MPA1(/M) adapter plate that allows a rigid stand to be mounted on a translation stage.

Each of these rigid stands includes a rectangular insert holder that is compatible with the 6.70" x 5.13" inserts shown in the table to the right. Each insert holder also features eight 1/4"-20 (M6 x 1.0) threaded holes and four 1/4" (M6) counterbored holes for additional mounting options. The inserts are held in place by four 5/64" hex screws. Eight 1/4"-20 or M6 x 1.0 tapped holes on top of the insert holder platform can be used to mount additional experimental equipment.
