Optical AmplifiersThorlabs Quantum Electronics (TQE) is a world leader in the development of InP and Lithium Niobate technologies. We offer a line of Optical Amplifiers that includes Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs), Booster Optical Amplifiers (BOAs), and an erbium-doped fiber amplifier developed by strategic partner, Menlo Systems. A polarization-independent amplifier (i.e., a SOA) is necessary in applications where the input polarization is unknown or fluctuates. For applications where the polarization state is known, a polarization-dependent BOA provides improved gain, noise, bandwidth, and saturation power compared to its SOA counterpart. The center wavelength of the BOA can be readily tailored for specific applications. It is quite common to adjust the wavelength spectrum of a BOA to match a specific laser source.
