Thorlabs Introduces NI ASE Plug in for SCXI® Chassis

Newton, NJ, May 1, 2002 Thorlabs Inc., a leading manufacturer of innovative photonics products, today announced the introduction of a new C&L band ASE light source (1530nm to 1610nm) designed for operation in a National Instruments SCXI® chassis. This product is the first of a suite of Thorlabs plug-and-play components for the SCXI chassis allowing the user to easily create self-sufficient, automated testing solutions. The SCXI® chassis provides an inexpensive and compact testing station for Thorlabs' new line of products and for National Instruments' existing line of test and signal conditioning components.

These new components allow complete compatibility with LabWindows™/CVI and LabView® interface software making it simple to create and build test platforms and applications. Thorlabs' SCXI® products not only provide a LabView interface, but also allow the user to control the components manually through convenient faceplate switches and indicators. This capability makes Thorlabs' SCXI components the right solution for both automated and manual testing applications. The compact SCXI chassis allows up to 12 test and measurement components to be housed in a small 18" chassis.

The ASE-SCXI-1 produces an output spectrum in the range of 1530nm to 1610nm with a total output power is 20 mW. The low noise stable output will provide consistent results for all C & L band testing needs. This new C&L band ASE light source is the latest addition to the Thorlabs photonics tool chest.

Scott Motyka, a Senior Engineer at Thorlabs, said of this new product line, "The Thorlabs SCXI compatible products will open new opportunities in the optical testing arena." Motyka went on to say, "The merging of Thorlabs' optical expertise with National Instruments' family of signal conditioning products provides a compact testing platform that's hard to beat for both manual and automated testing."
