Thorlabs' SCP05 and SCP05T XY translating lens mounts provide ±1.0 mm (±0.04") of travel perpendicular to the optical axis of a 16 mm cage system. The front and back plate of the mount are stationary, while the inner carriage can move in the X and Y directions. The adjusters feature 100 threads per inch and provide 250 μm of translation per revolution. The adjusters may be actuated by hand or using a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex key or balldriver and the setscrews for mounting cage rods offer a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex. If replacement setscrews are needed, we offer SS4B013 brass setscrews, which use a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex.

The SCP05 and SCP05T mounts both contain internal SM05 threads suitable for mounting Ø1/2" (12.7 mm) optics up to 0.23" (5.8 mm) thick using the included SM05RR retaining ring. The optic is held in place by the retaining ring and the retaining lip built into the SM05-threaded carriage. Additionally, the SCP05T mount contains internal SM05 threads on the stationary front and rear faces of the housing (as illustrated in the diagram to the right), allowing light-tight connections to our Ø1/2" lens tubes. (The SCP05 is only threaded on the rear face.)

To remove or install the SM05RR retaining ring or an optic, the adapter retaining ring on the front of the mount must first be removed using a spanner wrench such as the SPW801. For reference, please see the animation to the upper right.

Thorlabs' MCXY05(/M) Translation Mount provides ±1.0 mm (±0.04") of X and Y travel for Ø1/2" optics. The front and back plate of the mount are stationary, while the inner carriage can move in the X and Y directions in the plane perpendicular to the optical axis. The adjusters provide 200 µm translation per revolution and may be actuated by hand or using a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex key or balldriver. A
4-40 (M3 x 0.5) mounting hole located on the bottom of the mount allows it to be mounted on our Mini-Series Posts. Additionally, four through holes with 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex setscrews accept Ø4 mm cage rods for compatibility with our 16 mm cage systems. If replacement setscrews are needed, we offer SS4B013 brass setscrews, which use a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex.

The MCXY05(/M) mount contains internal SM05 (0.535"-40) threads suitable for mounting Ø1/2" (12.7 mm) optics up to 0.23" (5.8 mm) thick using the included SM05RR retaining ring. The optic is held in place by the retaining ring and a retaining lip built into the SM05-threaded carriage. The center of the optic carriage is 0.89" (22.7 mm) above the base of the mount when the carriage is centered. Thorlabs' SPW603, SPW603L, or SPW801 Spanner Wrenches can be used to tighten or remove the SM05RR retaining ring.

Thorlabs' SSP05 16 mm Slip Plate Positioner is designed to provide coarse XY positioning of optical components within our cage assembly system. The component that provides position adjustment is the movable carriage, which moves along the surface of the other plate for small XY adjustment. The movable carriage provides manual adjustment only and is best utilized in conjunction with an alignment laser to monitor centricity.

Adjustment is achieved by first loosening the two 2-56 button-head adjustment screws with a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex key or balldriver, manually adjusting the movable carriage in the desired position, and then tightening the screws to lock the carriage in place. The movable carriage is internally SM05 threaded and compatible with our Ø1/2" lens tubes, which can be used to hold Ø1/2" optics. Each cage rod through hole is accompanied by a side-located locking 4-40 setscrew, which can be secured using a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex key or balldriver. If replacement setscrews are needed, we offer SS4B025 brass setscrews, which use a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex.

For post mounting, the SSP05 features a 4-40 tapped hole on side and an M3 tapped hole on the other. Our Mini-Series posts and Mini-Series pedestal posts can be used to mount the SSP05.

This mount utilizes M3 x 0.25 fine adjustment screws to provide ±1 mm of travel perpendicular to the optical axis. The adjustment screws provide 250 µm/rev, and there is a 5/64" hex socket in the back end of each screw. A hex key may be used to achieve small incremental movements. The movable carriage is internally SM05 (0.535"-40)-threaded and directly accepts Ø1/2" optics held in place by an SM05RR Retaining Ring (included). This also makes the mount compatible with any internally SM05-threaded component.

Please note that the moving SM05-threaded world may be manually rotated and may also rotate during translation.

The CT102 has an internal SM05 (0.535"-40) threading for mounting Ø1/2" components up to 0.39" (9.9 mm) thick or externally SM05-threaded components. The CT102 allows for ±1 mm of travel in the X and Y direction using M3 x 0.25 fine adjusters. The mount is directly compatible with the CT1A(/M) 30 mm cage Z-axis translation stage and the MS1(/M) translation stage when it is used with the MS103(/M) adapter plate. One SM05RR retaining ring, which secures a component by sandwiching it between the ring and the back lip on the mount. Two 4-40 and two M3 cap screws for securing the mount are included with each unit.

The CP1XY offers ±0.25 mm of XY travel manipulated by M2.5 x 0.20 fine pitch adjusters. The stainless steel flexure design provides excellent long-term stability and is ideal for fiber coupling applications or experiments that use spatial filters or pinholes, which require fine positioning. The 0.35" (8.89 mm) long center bore is tapped through with an SM05 (0.535"-40) thread to allow the integration of our extensive SM05-threaded family of products. The CP1XY is vacuum compatible to 10^-5 Torr. We recommend using two POLARIS-SM05RR vacuum-compatible, stainless steel retaining rings (sold separately) to secure an optic in the bore while under vacuum conditions. Alternatively, for non-vacuum applications, we offer SM05RR anodized aluminum retaining rings.

The Z-Axis position of the CXYZ05A(/M) can be locked by threading an SM15RR retaining ring (sold separately) onto the internal threads of the rear knurled knob. This can be done using the SPW801 Spanner Wrench.

The Thorlabs CXYZ05A(/M) Translation Mount offers X-, Y-, and Z-Axis travel and holds Ø1/2" (12.7 mm) optics, up to 0.31" (8.0 mm) thick, against the back lip of the optic cell using the provided SM05RR retaining ring. XY functionality allows travel perpendicular to the optical axis, while the Z-axis functionality allows for compensation of focusing errors in applications such as fiber alignment or lens mounting. The optic cell has been designed to offer pure X, Y, and Z translation.

The optic cell is internally SM05 (0.535"-40) threaded and is translated along the Z-axis by rotating the zoom adjustment dial on the back of the mount. The optic cell does not rotate during translation. An engraving is included on the knurled dial, indicating the direction that it must be turned for translating the optic cell forward and backwards. Laser-engraved tick marks spaced 0.25 mm apart are included on the optic cell for indicating the Z-axis position. The position can be locked using an SM15RR Retaining Ring (sold separately); see the image to the right for more details.

X and Y translation of the carriage is accomplished using the two 3/16"-100 fine adjusters, which can be locked using the nylon-tipped setscrew at the base of each adjuster and a 0.035" hex key. Horizontal and vertical witness lines provide a reference for the XY alignment.

The mounts have four through holes for use with our Ø6 mm ER cage rods, making them compatible with our 30 mm Cage Systems. The CXYZ05A(/M) mount uses side-located M4 x 0.7 setscrews, which use a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex key, to lock the cage rods in position. The mounts can easily be adapted to 16 mm Cage Systems by using the SP15 Cage System Size Adapter. Two
8-32 (M4) tapped holes are also provided on opposite sides of the XY adjusters for post mounting in right- or left-handed orientations.
