Thorlabs' 90° Flip Mounts feature a compact, versatile design that allows optics to be easily inserted or removed from the beam path. Our flip mounts for round optics feature a precision detent mechanism to provide a holding force at the 0° and 90° positions. Additionally, two nylon-tipped setscrews (0.05" hex) allow for the mount to be locked into place at any angle between 0° and 90°. Alternatively, the RFM90 flip mount holds Ø1" (25 mm) or rectangular optics using a clamping mechanism with two nylon-tipped setscrews. A pivot joint then allows the mount to be set at almost any angle between 0° and 90°.

A detent force locks the mount at either 0° or 90°. Additionally, the two locking setscrews allow the mount to be locked into place at any angle between 0° and 90°.
Thorlabs' Flip Mounts for Round Optics are designed to mount Ø1/2", Ø1", or Ø2" optics and can be post mounted individually (
Multiple mounts can be stacked in series using Ø6 mm Cage Rods, as pictured above. Please note the flip mounts are not directly compatible with our cage systems. A flexure mechanism locks the mounts to the cage rod and is engaged by the setscrew on the side of the mount, which is activated with the included 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex key. Since the Ø1/2" and Ø1" mounts are 0.5" (13 mm) thick, one may be mounted per 0.5" length of Ø6 mm cage rod. For example, three Ø1/2" or Ø1" flip mounts may be joined in series on one ER1.5 cage rod. The Ø2" mount is 0.6" (15 mm) thick, and therefore, an ER2 cage rod must be used to secure three Ø2" flip mounts.
Each of these mounts includes a 0.05" (1.3 mm) hex key for adjusting setscrews, as well as a standard retaining ring to mount filters or other optics. The retaining rings can be easily adjusted using one of our spanner wrenches (sold separately), or removed and replaced with one of our stress-free retaining rings or plastic retaining ring (also sold separately). Note that using these special retaining rings changes the maximum thickness of the optic that can be held in this mount. Please refer to the table below for compatible retaining rings and corresponding maximum thicknesses.
Note that the threaded hole used to attach the post to the filter mount goes all the way through to the rotation mechanism. Be sure that no more than 0.2" (5 mm) of the screw on top of the post is threaded into the filter mount in order to prevent the binding of the rotation mechanism. Also note that the flat-head spring detent screw is factory set and not user adjustable.

The pivot joint on the RFM90 allows the mount to be set at almost any angle between 0° and 90°.
The RFM90 Flip Mount provides stable mounting for Ø1" round optics or rectangular optics from 24 mm x 10 mm to 50 mm x 50 mm that are up to 6 mm thick. To protect against scratches, the optic is held in place by a clamp with two nylon-tipped setscrews. If a stronger clamping force is desired, the setscrews can be backed out so that the optic is gripped directly by the aluminum arms of the clamp. The setscrews and clamp actuation screw accept a 5/64" (2.0 mm) hex key.
A finely tuned pivot joint* allows the mount to be positioned at almost any angle between 0° and 90°. Magnets at the 0° and 90° positions provide extra holding force. Note that the magnet at the 0° position will pull the mount closed at very small angles. The RFM90 includes one 1/4"-20 (M6) and one 8-32 (M4) counterbore for post mounting.
*The pivot joint consists of a screw and two ball contacts that are factory set and should not be adjusted by the user.
