Thorlabs VCSEL-850 Laser Diode has a center wavelength of 850 nm. It also has a TO-46 package. The center wavelength of a particular diode varies from production run to production run, thus the diode you receive may not operate at the typical center wavelength. This diode can be temperature tuned, which will alter the lasing wavelength.

Fabry-Perot lasers are also sensitive to optical feedback, which can cause significant fluctuations in the output power of the laser diode depending on the application.
