The achromatic doublet is designed for infinite conjugate ratios but is ideal for finite conjugate applications when used in pairs. In finite conjugate applications, both the object and image are a finite distance from the lens pair. Thorlabs' Matched Achromatic Pairs combine two of our stock achromatic doublets for image relay systems, NA conversion, or image magnification. The spacing between elements is optimized to give the best image quality and optimal numerical aperture conversion.
These pairs are housed in SM1 (1.035"-40) threaded housings, which have outside diameter of Ø1.2". The housing is engraved with the part number, focal lengths, and magnification of the pair, thereby allowing for easy identification. Since the lenses are pre-mounted, there is no need to handle the glass optics, making these achromats ideal for integration into a host of OEM applications.
When determining the proper orientation of the lens pair, please note that the magnification is specified as f1:f2. Therefore, to enlarge an object, place the end of the housing with the f1 engraving such that it faces the source; for a reduced image, orient the mount so the f2 engraving faces the object. Achromatic pairs with a 1:1 magnification are bidirectional.
