Thorlabs offers a variety of standard two-adjuster kinematic mirror mounts. Included on this page are our most poplular Ø1/2" (KM05), Ø1" (KM100), and Ø2" (KM200) mirror mounts. These standard kinematic mounts offer an angular adjustment range of ±4° (±3° for the KM200), are all mountable in left- or right-handed orientations, and secure the mirror at three points using a nylon-tipped locking screw and a double-bored mounting hole.

For your convenience, the popular KM100 and KM200 mounts can be purchased prepackaged with one of our broadband dielectric-coated mirrors at a discount to the individual component prices; please see the product listings below for the available selection. More information regarding the general specifications and the reflectivity of each coating across its spectral range is available under the Mirror Info tab above. The knobs on the KM100 and KM200 are removable, thereby exposing the hex sockets at the end of the lead screws (see the image above).

We also offer kinematic mounts (KM05T, KM100T, and KM200T) designed for stress-free mounting of thin optical components. These mounts have an internally threaded hole with a lip on the back side against which the optic can be secured using the included externally threaded retaining ring. Optics up to 1/8" (3.2 mm) thick can be held in these mounts. With #8 (M4) counterbored through holes on the back plate, these mounts are compatible with both imperial and metric Ø1/2" posts. The knobs on the KM100T and KM200T are removable, thereby exposing the hex sockets at the end of the lead screws.

The KM100CP kinematic mount is designed to center the front surface of the optic over the center of the mounting post. This is ideal for beams incident at 45°, which can be easily aligned with the optical table's hole matrix.

A complete presentation of the available information on the broadband dielectric coated mirrors that come premounted in the KM series of kinematic mirror mounts can be seen by following this link. However, the general specifications, spectral operating range, and the reflectivity as a function of wavelength for an unpolarized beam incident at 45° is shown below.

A response from Tim at Thorlabs: We have already generated data on both the KS and the Polaris and there is a clear difference between the two in terms of returning to original position after temperature cycling. You are certainly right that this information will be useful for selecting between our mounts. We are currently working towards accumulating more data and integrating it into our web presentation and we look forward to having this data available for our customers soon!

A response to Tim at Thor Labs- Yes exactly, this is what I was requesting. I don't mind helping you improve your website because it ultimately helps me too and, trust me, there are a lot of other people who would like to have this too. It is much easier to select a mount if all the information is available. Please remember to do both the KS1 and the KM100. If you have more time you might as well do the larger mounts too. PS. I am not a Thor Labs Employee regardless of what everyone is thinking but I do know Alex, John and Brian from the good old days....

Hello Buki what I was really asking about is if you can post on your website, thermal test data on the KM100 and KS1. it would be helpful for comparing with the steel mount called Polaris.

I like this mount but would like if you could add the thermal test you did on your steel mount so I can compare. It seems as though this mount is just as stable as the steel mount and I can buy 3 for the price of 1 steel mount. Please prove me wrong by showing the test data.

Hi, I use the 1" and 2" mirror mounts as lens mounts most times. It is perfect and I can adjust my lenses using the nubs. But since the post holder on the mount is not "exactly" in the center of the opening, i need to combine the a BA1 underneath the post so i can adjust the post just a tiny bet. Again, the difference is a tiny bet but it is important when aligning the lens and It would be helpful if you change the design and have the post screw clearance "exactly" in the center of the opening. ~Sona

It would be nice if there were markers on the outer edges of the km100 which denoted the middle position of the mirror (horizontal and vertical). When I am measuring with a ruler on an optical table it is difficult to gauge where the mirror center is, and this would help a good deal.

Response from Laurie @ Thorlabs to lsandstrom: After looking into your suggestion a bit further, it would be possible for us to meet your needs through a special request. The KM05 that you inquired about has 3/16"-100 adjusters as does our KMS. Therefore, we could replace the adjusters on our KM05 with the longer adjusters and removable knobs from the KMS. If you would be interested in such an item, please contact our technical support staff at 973-300-3000.

As requested, some basic information about the mirrors that come premounted in the KM series of kinematic mounts has been added to this page. Look under the "Mirror Info" tab. Also, the tab contains a link to the complete broadband dielectric mirror presentation. Thank you for submitting this excellent suggestion. As always we appreciate any feedback that allows us to improve the usefulness of our presentation. We are currently working on making the presentation feedback form more user friendly, but for now please consider creating another tab in your browser instead of navigating away from the presentation feedback form.

It really hurts to type in a long reply and then go to check something out only to find the input screen has been wiped clean. 2nd try... Please add reflectivity curves to the presentation and consider adding both a "Mirror Specifications" tab as well as a link to the full presentaion on th mirrors. Also the Related Items tab should show all the other mirror mounts the Thorlabs offers, right i notic that the GM100 and VM1 are missing.

Ø1" Kinematic Mount with Post-Centered Front Plate
KM100CP Mounted on a Post
The KM100CP places the optic's front surface over the center of the post.
  • Front Surface of Mirror Aligned with Post-Mounting Hole to Simplify Beam Alignment
  • Rear Loaded Double-Bored Mounting Cell with Nylon-Tipped Set Screw Secures Optic
  • Mounts Ø1" Optics at Least 0.12" (3 mm) Thick

The KM100CP Ø1" kinematic mirror mount is designed to center the front surface of a mirror over the center of the mounting post. The mount can be attached to either a Ø1/2" post or Ø1" (Ø25 mm) post via the mount's 8-32 (M4) tapped hole. If the mirror's front surface is aligned over one of the breadboard's holes, a beam incident at 45° can be easily aligned with the table's hole matrix. The mount is attached to the post via one of two tapped holes, which allow for right- or left-handed adjuster orientation.

The unique design of the KM100CP incorporates the post-mounting feature into the fixed, rear plate of the mount, which is also where the brass bushings are found. By having the bushings in the fixed plate, as opposed to the movable plate, the instability of the mount is greatly reduced during adjustments.

As with our standard KM100 mounts, our post-centering mount is designed with two 1/4"-80 adjusters that yield ±4° of angular adjustment, and a resolution of 8 mrad (0.5°) per revolution. An optional accessory, the LN2580 bronze locking nut, is available to lock the adjusters once the desired position is reached. The mirror is locked in place with a nylon-tipped locking screw that can be tightened with a 5/64" hex key or balldriver. While our standard KM100 mount centers the optic 1" (25.4 mm) above the post, the KM100CP centers the optic 1.25" (31.8 mm) above the post due to the design of the post mounting feature.

The KMCP adapter can also be used to center our standard KM100 mount over the center of a Ø1/2" post.
