Video-rate Laser Scanning Microscopy (LSM)

Biological Imaging

Live cell studies require real-time imaging. The VCM100, with its fast resonant optical scanning and high-speed signal processing engine, achieves video-rate imaging speed of 23 fps at image size of 800 × 640 pixels.

The video-rate imaging speed of the system is shown in Figure 1 below during real-time monitoring of living C. Elegans worms on an agar plate. (Click on the image to activate the movie). This data was taken with the VCM100 in backscattering mode using a 10X objective lens. The sample is illuminated with a fiber coupled 660 nm laser diode.

Material Inspection

The backscattering (e.g. back reflection) imaging mode of VCM100 is ideal for microelectronics and material science imaging applications where the scattering signal is strong. This is the demonstrated by the images below in which the VCM100 was used to inspect microelectronic devices. The images were taken using a 660 nm laser diode light source, and Olympus infinity corrected objectives. Post data processing was used to create psuedo-color projections and cross-sections, with a number of samples shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3
