Established in early 2009, Thorlabs China is the newest addition to the Thorlabs family.
Aimed to support China's fast growing Photonics market, Thorlabs China provides sales and technical support to the local photonics community. In addition, Thorlabs China will also serve as the local center for manufacturing and purchasing to support both the Chinese market as well as our worldwide market.
Founded more than 20 years ago by Alex Cable, a scientist from Bell Labs, Thorlabs has steadily grown to become a leading manufacturer and supplier for the Photonics community. After working with Nobel Prize winner Steve Chu at Bell Labs, Mr. Cable understood that there was a need for a company that would serve fellow scientists with quality products at reasonable prices. This motto has become the company culture; most members of senior management are former scientists and continue to make quality of service their highest priority.
Starting from a small rented space in Newton, New Jersey, Thorlabs has grown steadily to its current size, with over 700 employees worldwide (120 of them are R&D engineers designing new products) and over 20,000 m2 of manufacturing space in 5 countries.
Today Thorlabs designs, manufactures and sells over 12,000 products through it printed catalog and website. Thorlabs products include optical tables, opto-mechanics, nano-positioning stages, optical components, light sources, measurement instrumentation, fiber optic products and imaging systems such as OCT and confocal microscopes.
