Thorlabs offers single mode 2x2 fiber couplers with center wavelengths from 488 - 1550 nm. These couplers are available with 50:50, 90:10, or 99:1 split ratios. Additionally, these couplers are bidirectional, allowing any one of the ports to be used as an input port. The FC850 and FC1310 series are broadband couplers that have been designed and tested for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) systems. Our couplers are offered with FC/PC connectors, FC/APC connectors, or unterminated. If a custom connector configuration is needed please contact your local Thorlabs office. For small orders same day turn around is possible if the order is placed before 12pm EST. All fibers have a 900 µm diameter loose jacket.
Refer to the Coupling Example tab above for application details.
In the diagram below, a 90:10 2x2 coupler is shown schematically. Since the coupler is bidirectional, either end of the coupler may be used as the input (i.e., either end A or end B). Any one of the four fibers may be used as a single input. On the other end of the coupler, one fiber will have 10% of the input signal, while the other fiber will have 90% of the signal. While the fibers are color-coded, these are for user identification within a setup and do not indicate particular input or output ports.
Specific Coupling Examples
Figure does not represent a specific coupling ratio, for demonstrational purposes only.
In the example below, a 10202A 2x2 Coupler is used with Signal A at a wavelength of 1550 nm and Signal B at a wavelength of 1540 nm. Please refer to the picture above for port numbers and signal paths. Expected output is summarized in the table below for various setups.

The SM optical couplers described on the website are similar to what we use currently here at nLIGHT, however I could not find any describing use of 80u cladding fiber. Is it possible to have a 90 - 10 80u cladding fiber tap/couplers made if it's not off the shelf?
Thank you,

Response from Tim at Thorlabs: The FC532-99B-FC uses 460HP fiber. We will see attenuation from this fiber but out of band use will also significantly change the coupling ratio for single mode couplers. As you will have two separate wavelengths both will contribute different coupling ratios to each of the output legs. I will contact you to discuss this further with your specific wavelengths.

Hi, we'd like to use this product for collecting a FITC fluorescence, so we'd like to couple a 518 nm signal and to cut-off (if possible) a 488 nm line. What are the respective attenuation? thank you.

Response from Buki at Thorlabs:
We will contact you to discuss your application further. However, it sounds like you may want a WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexer): http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=375
A WDM can be used to combine or separate multiple single mode wavelengths. The closest to your request is WD202A, which is designed for 980nm and 1550nm.
We will contact you directly to continue this discussion.

Dear,
I would like to order this product to couple 800 nm and 1550 nm. The coupling ratio is 99:1. What is the price? Do you offer 1x2 single mode couplers which can couple 800 nm and 1550 nm ?
Best

Response from Buki at Thorlabs:
We have contacted you with some drawings that show how the light splits when it enters each input. We will also look into how to clarify the diagrams on our website.
Please contact TechSupport@thorlabs.com if you have further questions.

on my 10202A-50-FC fiber coupler, the inputs are white and red and the outputs are white and blue. What is the significance of the colours? Assuming no coupling, would light entering on the white fiber end up on the blue or white fiber on the other end?

I want to know the attenuation and the change of the the 50-50 coupling ratio of it.because the our wavelength is 630-800,and the most of it is 700-800,so i want to know the efficient of it .Looking forward to your reply.

Response from Laurie at Thorlabs to venugopal486: Thank you for your interest in our products. These couplers are designed for use in the 850 +/- 40 nm range. Your broadband Ti:Sapphire Oscillator likely provides output in this range but also has output at other wavelengths outside of this range. For wavelengths outside of the couplers bandwidth, the 50-50 coupling ratio with be altered and attenuation is likely to occur. These couplers have not been designed for use with femtosecond sources, and thus, we do not currently have information on their performance for such sources. We rate this item for use with powers up to 300 mW, although we do have customer feedback indicating that they have been used suggessfully with output powers up to 500 mW. I hope that this additional information helps you decide whether this coupler is appropriate for your application. Please feel free to contact us if youd like to discuss any of these points in more detail.

Response from Laurie at Thorlabs to alison.carr: Thank you for your feedback. We actually do not have a manual for the FC632-90B. However, I believe that what you are inquiring about is the sheet that ships with this item. The port information that you need is the following: Input - 2 white, Output - 1 white and 1 blue.

The FC850-40 OCT-proven broadband couplers are polarization independent, passive, 2 x 2 single mode fiber optic components designed for use in the 810-890 nm range. 1310 nm OCT Broadband Fiber Optic Couplers
Center Wavelength: 1310 nm
Wavelength Range ±70 nm
1 m Long Fiber Leads
Operating Temperature: -40 to 85 °C
The FC1310-70 OCT-proven broadband couplers are polarization independent, passive, 2 x 2 single mode fiber optic components designed for use in the 1240-1380 nm range. An important consideration in the design of an OCT system is the flat spectral response of the components in the system. The fiber type for each coupler is listed on the pdf drawing, found by clicking on the red documents link next to each part number.
Thorlabs' 10202A 2x2 single mode fiber couplers are designed for operation at 1310 ± 40 nm or 1550 ± 40 nm. They are available in 50:50, 90:10, and 99:1 coupling ratios. For each ratio, choose from unterminated, FC/PC-connectorized, or FC/APC-connectorized ends. The fiber type for each coupler is listed on the pdf drawing, found by clicking on the red documents link next to each part number.
