FiberBenches Include Two Wall Plates and a Dust Cover
Beam Height is 14.3 mm
303 Nonmagnetic Stainless Steel
The FiberBench and FiberTable subassemblies form the foundation of the nearly infinite array of miniature fiber optic systems that OFR customers have been building for the last decade. When used with the PAF Series Fiber Collimators/Couplers, a complete optical circuit can be constructed. For basic systems that require only one input and one output path, the FiberBench is ideal; for more complex systems that require multiple inputs and outputs, we recommend the use of the FiberTable products.
Complete System with FiberPorts
The FiberBenches and FiberTables are inherently versatile, and their all-stainless steel construction offers the stability required when building fiber optic systems. All benches, tables, and couplers are made from nonmagnetic 303 stainless steel, which ensures both mechanical rigidity as well as thermal stability. Our design approach has been validated by temperature cycling aligned systems from -20 °C to 20 °C; only 0.1 dB change in insertion loss was detected during these tests. The FiberBenches and FiberTables are intended to be used with the PAF Series of Fiber Couplers (i.e., FiberPorts), two of which are shown on the bottom of this page. The two FiberPorts shown are offered with three different AR coatings, and are designed to collimate the output of an optical fiber or to re-couple a free space beam back into an optical fiber. Both FiberPorts offer excellent optical coupling. Please see the table below for details.

A response from Tyler at Thorlabs to Andrew: I would recommend the FB-38W FiberBench with two PAF-X-2-? FiberPorts. The ? is for the AR coating of the aspheric lens. Thank you for your interest in our product line and for the presentation recommendation, I will look into adding some FiberBench/FiberPort application information to the web.
To our customers: Please feel free to post information about how FiberBench/FiberPort products are used in your application.

Regarding the fiber tables: It would be helpful if it was suggested what products to order to do basic fiber port to fiber port alignment. Currently in our experiment we have a fiber go from the table, through some pipe, through an ultra torr vacuum seal down into a cryostat. I would like to couple this fiber in free space to a second fiber next to the cryostat. If the fiber coming from the table was damaged it would be okay because it could be replaced with another fiber.
To do port to port coupling I imagine you would use identical fiber ports and choose the correct table length. Are there some specific instructions, or do customers typically just go through the mode matching equations?

FiberBenches can be ordered without the HCA3 wall plates. For free-space to fiber coupling applications, it is common to use a bench with only one wall plate.
Mount a PAF Fiber Coupler to a FiberBench or FiberTable
Mounting Screws Included
The HCA3 Series of Wall Plates are one of three basic building blocks for any FiberTable or FiberBench system. The wall plates are attached to the sides of a FiberBench or FiberTable using the two included 8-32 mounting screws. The FiberPort is then attached to the wall plate using the four included 2-56 screws.
We also Offer the HCA3-SM1 Wall Plate that allows mounting of SM1 threaded devices like our PDA Series Photodetectors.
The FiberBenches and FiberTables are designed to be used with the PAF Series Couplers/Collimators. Recommended models for use with the FiberBenches on the prior page are listed below.
